The rock pile question

Yesterday we  answered some questions on the rock pile. Witch was helpful because it helped my understand the concepts and parts of the book i missed when I was zoned out a few days ago. We also worked on claims if we were to have to write an essay on the short story. Although I am not a good essay writer I like to argue therefore I feel like I came up with some very good claims for the prompt. It was not an argumentative essay but I always have a way of wanting to convince people I am right. Hopefully I do good on the quiz tomorrow even though it is senior skip day.

The rock pile pt 2

I’m a bit behind on my blogs so the other day we read more into the rock pile. We also took notes. I enjoyed it more today because it highlighted how there are lots of issues in mixes family’s. A lot of my friends have mixed families and have very bad family issues witch most people often don’t think about. I will study my notes to get ready for the quiz on friday

The Rock Pile

Today in class we read the beginning of a book called the Rock like. I have to be honest I did not really take in a lot of what we read. I will have to look over the notes to see what I did not absorb because I did take notes. I need to make sure I finish my coffee in the morning before first period so I can be locked in.

The Assesment

Yesterday in class we did an Assessment (a test) on Langston Hughes poems. I honestly thought I did not great on the test because I missed one of the poems when I missed class on Friday. My annotations helped me out a lot and I’m glad I had them. This is the first time that they have actually came in handy, in previous classes I’ve done them and they have sat in my folder for the rest of the year. With the annotations I managed to get a 80 on the test and keep an A in the class. I will be sure to continue to do annotations for the rest of the year

Substitute

Today Mr. Rease was not here. We had an assignment to do asking us to continue to make an analysis on the poem we read the other day. The assignment was easy although I may have missed a question or two. My peers were not really taking class seriously today since they had already completed this assignment. I just wanted to make sure I had the correct answers. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to change my answers with the help of a teacher.

From Mother too son

Yesterday in class we read the poem Mother To Son by Langston Hughes. I enjoyed reading this. Most of all I enjoyed annotating this poem because I had read it and annotated it last year in my American lit class. It is very interesting to see what a different teacher and different class can pull out of the same poem. The metaphor crystal stair was a controversial topics and everyone had different opinions about it last year and this year.

I Too

Today in class we read the poem I too my Langston Hughes. I liked the poem because it spoke of the future. And practically predicted it. The poem was very short and I wish it would have been more in depth. We will probably get into that tomorrow but unfortunately I will not be there to read it. Hopefully someone will catch me up on Monday.

Rivers questions

Today in class we did some questions about the Langston Hughes poem The Negro Speaks of rivers. These questions were not my favorite of things we have done so far, although I can see how they were important. The questions were just like the rest of the poem seeming simple on the outside but deeply thought provoking on the inside. I am looking forward to starting a new poem tomorrow and possibly uncovering some of Hughes’s hidden messages.

The Negro Speaks Of Rivers

Today in class we read the 1920s poem The Negro speaks of rivers by Langston Hughes. At first glance the poem looked like a very simple poem. After reading the Poem over you could tell there was many underlying meanings of this poem. I also noticed a lot of literary elements packed into such a small poem. One think that really stuck to me was when he talked about the flow of blood in a human body stopping but a river never stops flowing. “When dawns were young” is a metaphor Hughes used to demonstrate that rivers had been flowing from the beginning of time and will continue to flow to the end of it. But my takeaway from the poem is that even after we die, normal life goes on without us and the rivers never stop flowing.

In Class Notes

Today in class we learned about and took notes on the African American culture. We learned about the history of the culture their food, beliefs, and religion. I think we should have taken more time to go over the stereotypes of the culture because it is a current issue in todays society. I think it was a good lesson overall and helped other people understand the culture and the reasons for certain practices.
